Apparently the first lesson that supporters of Amendment 66—the massive tax hike for government schools—wish to impart on Colorado’s children is how to use misleading statistics to distort the facts.
Colorado’s constitution gives people the ability to hold recall elections for political reasons. For entirely understandable reasons, Democrats wish to suppress such voting. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the Democrats’ position here; it’s just not very, well, democratic.
Obviously the Colorado recalls were largely about Democrats’ support for legislation restricting the right to keep and bear arms. But those who limit the discussion to that point fail to draw the broader lessons from the recall.
In the midst of this chaos—of this fundamental incapacity of Colorado government to perform its central role of protecting the public from violent criminals—Colorado’s Democratic legislators and Colorado’s governor are largely concerned, not about cleaning up those obvious problems, but with redirecting government resources toward the tracking and monitoring of peaceable gun owners.

The point bears repeating: “Registered electors shall be the sole and exclusive judges of the legality, reasonableness and sufficiency of such ground or grounds assigned for such recall.”

Consider the implications of the legislature passing a sloppily drafted, ambiguous bill that its own sponsor did not even understand.
If the legislature wishes to create a business-friendly tax environment, it should establish lower taxes for every business, and make the effective tax rate the same for everyone.
