“One of the things a lot of folks don’t realize is that in Colorado for the last several years the majority of the legislation that passes, passes with bipartisan support,” Rep. Matt Gray, D-Broomfield.
Despite the legislature not authorizing the $3.5 million needed and the Joint Budget Committee voting 3-3 down party lines not to authorize emergency funding to keep the doors open after July 1, 2017, the office has remained open using federal grant money.
The good news is Mayor Hancock is shocked to learn that the city’s pro-transit, anti-auto policies haven’t worked. The bad news is that his response is to double-down on those policies.

RTD’s ridership peaked three years ago, with the first eight months of 2017 seeing 5.1 percent fewer riders than the same time period in 2014.
“Over the course of the last three months, the eastern part of the West Line has an increased amount of complaints from patrons, and official incident reports.” Natalie Menten, RTD District M Director.
“Supporting gives CCAT a little edge to later say ‘hey some of that rural transportation funding needs to be spent in our areas – not just the eastern plains.”
“It’s a good reason why tax increases and debt measures like this should go to the voters where they get vetted in public,” Menten said.
While the issue on the ballot is about development, the real question is whether the people have any say over how their cities are run when faced with powerful moneyed interests.
Ending New Starts would save taxpayers billions of dollars a year, plus relieve local governments of the obligations to operate and maintain obsolete transit lines.
