Proponents say since charter school students are public school students, and they should have equal access to money collected through property taxes.

Preliminary cost estimates for the recall are somewhere between $500,000 and $650,000. Additionally, if any of the targeted officials are not recalled, the district must reimburse them for their campaign costs up to $10,000 each.
The Colorado Education Association (CEA) and its local Thompson Education Association (TEA) affiliate are now going after the board’s attorney, Brad Miller.
“The open meetings law requires that when three or more members meet and public business is discussed, the meeting must be open to the public at all times,” said Brad Miller, the attorney for the Thompson school board.
Audience members compared Kerrigan, who called for innovation in the contract, to Adolph Hitler, and shouted “Long live the king.”
Steve Zansberg, attorney and president of the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition, says the law is ambiguous and subject to an interpretation that prohibits these types of meetings.
“Prop 104 defines a local public body as any group that meets with representatives of the teachers union to discuss labor contract, regardless of how small a group attend the meeting,” Zansberg said. “Under (this) interpretation, there can be no meeting of two members of the school board or its administration with union representatives that is not conducted in the open.”
When it comes to improving teacher licensure, 88 percent of teachers support a process that would automatically renew a teacher’s license if they are receiving “effective” evaluation ratings.
